Wonderful trip to South Africa. The Kettering students successfully implemented the bio-sand filter and roof washer system at Cetywayo primary school. The Pistons Palace Foundation donated jerseys and t-shirts for the village children. The Kettering students brought soccer shoes, soccer balls and t-shirts for the children also. Finally, the Masizakhe Community Development Project (Community Based Organization) along with OCCE met with Buhle Masange, project coordinator, with CARE-South Africa regarding a Village Savings and Loan program for the women in the village.

Brenda Gonzales will be Coordinating meetings with CARE’s Sylvester Kalonge and Vukuzenzele’s CBO regarding the Village Savings and Loan program.

Kettering University’s Engineers Without Borders (EWB) will be returning to Vukuzenzele to install a bio-sand filter at the primary school. They will also install roof washers to catch rain water.

Brenda Gonzales Returns to Vukuzenzele to meet with translators and school principal to discuss the bio-sand pilot project.
OCCE’s Ruthie Underwood has been meeting with Rotary International to discuss a potential partnership on a clean water and sanitation program.

Her work is about clean air and clean water for the 165 households — about 770 people — in the South African village of Vukuzenzele, nestled in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains in the southwest region of South Africa.
It also is about free hands for women.
